Dr. Bunkis is an innovative plastic surgeon and teacher. His skill and artistry remain unsurpassed, and patients from around the globe travel to seek his expertise.  He is a compassionate perfectionist, committed to excellence.     Dr. Bunkis is currently the Medical Director at Orange County Plastic Surgery in Rancho Santa Margarita, California.   Upon graduating from the University of Toronto School of Medicine in 1974, Dr. Bunkis completed his residency through Columbia University in New York and Harvard University in Boston.  Dr. Bunkis developed a large private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area and also served on the faculty within the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine.   Dr. Bunkis is a member of numerous, prestigious professional organizations.  He has lectured and presented scientific papers throughout North America and Europe, has published a wide range of scientific articles and has contributed chapters to various plastic surgery textbooks.  Dr. Bunkis has an avid interest in sports and has coached youth baseball and basketball for many years, even taking teams to national championships.    In addition, he has achieved PADI Advanced Diver Certification, is an instrument-rated, commercial jet pilot and an avid custom Harley, motorcycle enthusiast (Hamsters USA).  Dr. Bunkis is a volunteer deputy with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.     In 1992, in recognition of his assistance in bringing modern plastic surgery education to the Czech Republic, he received honorary memberships in the Associatio Medicorum Bohemoslovacorum J.E. Purkyne and the Societas Bohemoslovaca Chirurgiae Plasticae in a ceremony at Charles University in Prague, Czechoslovakia.   Dr. Bunkis has operated on indigent children in Central America for many years.  In 1995, in recognition of his volunteer efforts, Dr. Bunkis was knighted by the Cavalieri di San Marco (Knights of San Marco), Venice, Italy.  In addition, he was the 2000 Angel Wings Award recipient from the Angel Wings Foundation, Concord, California, and in 2006, the Man of Character Award from the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America.    Dr. Bunkis has also utilized his creative interests to develop a production company in Los Angeles, Burning Galileo Films, and helped produce a feature film.  This film, “F-Stops”, won the Silver Medal in 2001 at the Houston Film Festival, Houston TX.   Dr. Bunkis is widely recognized and is listed in a number of Who’s Who publications.
