Lipodissolve Treatment
The following information has been prepared to familiarize you with facts about the surgical procedures of Lipodissolve. You are requested to read this information thoroughly and to discuss with your practitioner any questions that might arise before you proceed with the procedure. You are also requested to keep this form as a reference for instructions in the post-operative period.
Lipodissolve - Fat Removal Procedure
Lipodissolve is currently one of the most revolutionary procedures for dissolving unwanted fat, known as lipolysis. If you have concerns with unwanted fatty deposits, you certainly are not alone! You must understand that this procedure is purely elective and is ideal for small areas of unwanted fat, not overall weight reduction. That ideal area would a patient that says, “I’m currently loosing weight and exercising, but no matter what I do, or I weigh, this bulge never gets better!”
The main attraction of this procedure is that it allows the practitioner to remove bothersome, disproportionate, localized fat deposits without doing surgery. Lipodissolve treatments require minimal downtime, which means you can go back to work the next day with very minimal discomfort. Unlike other formulations available, Lipodissolve consists only of the Phosphatidylcholine deoxycholate (PCDC), which is the active ingredient for dissolving fat, and lidocaine that numbs the area. Phosphatidylcholine is a soybean extract and deoxycholate is a derivative of bile (secretion for our gallbladder to dissolve fats from our diet.) Other additives, such as vitamins and enzymes, have never been proven to be beneficial to dissolving fat, and therefore are avoided.
PCDC Intravenous Fat Reduction
PCDC is FDA approved for intravenous reduction of fat in the vessels around the heart and has been used in Europe for approximately 10 years. This aggressive and revolutionary procedure was shown to be both safe and effective in removing fat. In the last 5 years, PCDC made its introduction into aesthetics and is being used around the world by experienced practitioners to dissolve small pockets of fat. PCDC is currently undergoing FDA clinical trials and approval for cosmetic use.
This procedure has been designed to dissolve away localized, stable fatty deposits that cannot be controlled by diet and exercise. It is neither an alternative method of weight control nor a treatment for generalized obesity; nor will Lipodissolve help loose skin (unless combined with a traditional resection), or to contour irregularities caused by irregularities in the fat or structures other than fat (i.e. bone, muscle weakness, protrusion of intra-abdominal contents, etc.). Only the fat within the layer between the skin and the first layer of muscles is accessible by lipodissolve.
It is important that you understand that no person is perfectly symmetrical from one side to the other. Given that the Lipodissolve procedure is able to dissolve fat slowly and precisely, every attempt is made to contour the area and minimize any side-to-side dissimilarities. However, such differences are not due solely to the fatty layer of the body and some differences may still remain, even after the most successful Lipodissolve procedure.
Lipodissolve - Usage And Contraindications
This procedure may be effective in removing excess fat from the neck, upper arms, chest, back, abdomen, abdominal sides (“love handles”), hips (“saddle bags”), thighs, knees. Lipodissolve is not recommended for below the knee or beyond the elbow. It should be emphasized from the outset, that the procedure has limitations in the amount of fat that can be removed and the amount of body sculpting that can be accomplished. However, in patients with a localized accumulation of fat, this procedure can be helpful in removing some of this fat in order to enhance one’s appearance. Lipodissolve is most effective in young, non-obese patients with minor deformities and good skin elasticity, as their skin will contract after each treatment.
Any of the following conditions are considered contraindications for lipodissolve treatments: allergy to PCDC or soy based products, obesity or BMI >30, pregnancy or nursing, patient under the age of 18, renal / liver disease or impaired organ function, connective tissues diseases, autoimmune or neurological diseases, any condition that involves impaired skin healing (i.e. diabetes, psoriasis).
